• 02-08-2012: 2012 Packaging Jamboree @ RIT

  This year the Jamboree will be hosted by RIT in Rochester, NY. UW-Stout's IoPP chapter is planning on bringing 40-50 student members on the trip. 

  Imagine walking into any store today where consumer goods are sold. As you walk up and down the isles, amidst brightly colored boxes, bottles and bags, you can't help but notice that the days when packages were used to simply protect products are long gone. 

  That's why we're calling the theme for this year's Jamboree "The Consumer Connection: How Packaging Communicates." The theme is centered around the idea of the 21st century package, whose responsibilities are not limited to only ensuring the contained product is protected. Instead, the package must capture the attention of the consumer, engage their senses, and persuade them to choose its product. With the rise of smart phones and other mobile technologies, consumers now shop in an augmented reality, where information such as company policies, nutritional information, and other customer reviews are only a finger-swipe away. Packaging needs to be smart, exciting, and unique in order to stand out on the shelf.

  From food to pharmaceuticals, shampoo to children's toys, packaging has evolved to serve its customers. The 2012 Packaging Jamboree will explore this evolution, and glimpse into where it's leading us.

  Create a sustainable package for batteries within a RRP. Learn about Walmart's Sustainable Packaging Global Initiative and apply it to a familiar product. Imagine being able to talk about this in an interview.

  48 Hour Repack
  February 24 - 26, 2012
  Compete against other schools in a 48 Hour challenge to completely redesign a package and sell it to your potential customer. Team up with friends and we'll open up the lab if you're interested. The previous entries look really good. This is a great opportunity to team up with other majors to design, create, and compete!

• 03-04-2011: Apply for WI IoPP Scholarship!

  The IoPP Wisconsin Chapter provides two full time School of Packaging students $1000 of financial assistance ($500 per semester). In order to be eligible, the following qualifications need to be met:

  1. Accepted to and actively taking courses in an accredited college or university School of Packaging
  2. Full time student (not on internship)
  3. Completed or currently enrolled in two foundation courses (i.e. PKG210 & PKG220)
  4. Active member of IoPP (i.e. board member, regular attendee)
  5. Achieved CPIT standing
  6. Submission of essay describing why scholarship is deserved (500-800 words)
  7. Resident of a Wisconsin county served by the IoPP Wisconsin Chapter

  Scholarship request essays must be completed and submitted by May 1 in Word.doc and sent to Rochelle Dressman at the email address below. Scholarship recipients will be notified 2-3 weeks prior to the start of the fall semester with renewal prior to the spring semester as long as the recipient will not be in an internship, and still meets the above criteria (except for items 5 & 6).

  Scholarship recipients must notify the IoPP Wisconsin Chapter of their desire to accept the scholarship and a written (email) acceptance must be sent to Rochelle Dressman no later than 2 weeks prior to the start of the fall semester. Scholarship checks will be sent directly to the school to be credited towards the recipient’s tuition.
