Nationals
UW-Stout participated in the 2011 National tournament held in Houston, Texas. The team competed in the division 1AAA tournament. They took 8 players that were ready to play some volleyball. The tournament began April 7th. On the first day of the tournament, the team arrived to the reliant stadium ready to play. They were ranked #5 in their division. The first round of the tournament started with each pool containing 3 teams. The first match went well for Stout, defeating Oklahoma State University 2-0. Next, they faced Southern Methodist University, who they also defeated in 2 games. Stout then took on Towson University in their third match of the pool. The match went to 3 games and Stout came out on top which gave them 1st place in the pool. The next day, Stout was placed in a championship power pool with Western Illinois University and the University of Tennessee. They played a very close first match with Western Illinois and with a few clutch plays came away with the win 2 games to 1. Stout then rolled past Tennessee beating them 2-0 in the match. This put the Blue Devils first in their power pool and sent them to the gold bracket on the 9th. Stout came out hot on the 9th shutting down Texas State's offense to aid their 2-0 victory. Their next match was against a solid University of Oregon team. This match would determine which team will compete in the D1AAA championship. The match went to 3 games with the third game being a close one. Stout found the intensity late in the third game and pulled out the win to take them to the championship against much anticipated North Dakota State University. The championship was a close match but unfortunately was the end to Stout's win streak. After losing the first game, Stout battled back and took the second. The Blue Devils fell just short of a national championship after losing the third game of the match. The University of Wisconsin Stout played some great competitive volleyball and more importantly had a fun time doing it. We welcome any newcomers who might be interested in playing some competitive club volleyball.
