11/11/13: Both good news and bad....Fall 15's came to a close as Stout dropped the ball in the WIIL Final 4 against Illinois State, 12-33. Another slow start seemed to be the difference, as ISU jumped out to a 0-19 lead at half, and as soon as Stout scored their first try and were putting things together to make a run in the second half, ISU's winger stole a past on the edge and took it 60+ meters for a try. On a more positive note, Stout previously submitted an at-large bid into the inaugural USA Rugby D2/NCSCRO Men's National 7's Tournament in Greensboro, NC November 23rd and 24th. It was confirmed late Sunday evening that the bid was accepted, and Stout's fall season has indeed not yet concluded. Although it was not the main goal of the club, it's another shot at a National Championship, and they'll be training hard for the next 2 weeks in preparation.
11/5/13: After a slow start this past Saturday, Stout got into a groove with 15 minutes left in the first half and went on to roll Loyola University of Chicago 55-12. What's next? A rematch against #7 in the nation, Illinois State in the WIIL Final 4 at Smith Park in Chicago, IL. It's a 2pm kickoff on Saturday, November 9th. State defeated Stout in the Final 4 this past spring 33-22, and that's the only thing on their mind going into Saturday. With a win, Stout will face the winner of the UW-Whitewater vs. Western Illinois game, which will take place on Saturday at noon. With a loss, Stout goes home.
10/30/13: So Stout finished the season on a strong note by defeating UW-Milwaukee 56-12 and took 2nd in the North Division regular season. Looking to put that behind, they host Loyola University of Chicago (South Division #3) in the WIIL conference Elite 8 this weekend on home turf. This is Stout's first home playoff game in many years, so we're looking for some strong support!
10/21/13: Coming off of their BYE week, Stout notched it's 4th shutout in 5 games as they defeated UW-Platteville 40-0. Looking ahead to the upcoming weekend, it's a battle for 2nd place in the North Division of the WIIL, in the last week of league play as Stout heads south to take on UW-Milwaukee. The winner will finish in 2nd, behind UW-Whitewater, and host the #3 team from the South Division on November 2nd, while the loser will have to make the trip to Illinois to take on the South Division #2.
10/3/13: It was a wild week in DII, as seven ranked teams lost. Yes, seven. Six of them lost to previously unranked teams, and three of them have toppled out of the rankings, while UW-Stout jumps up 5 spots! Check out the new rankings: http://rugbymag.com/men-dii-college/9470-mens-dii-college-top-25-oct-3-2013.html
10/2/13: Like the 2012 campaign, the Blue Devil's have once again started the season firing on all cylinders here in 2013, especially on the defensive side. Stout has yet to allow a point in 3 victories (81-0, 39-0, 14-0), and is taking great pride in this accomplishment; what we would like to be known as the "Blue Wave". This week we're back at it in preparing for the biggest match of the season where we will travel to Whitewater, WI to take on the defending WIIL Champion Warhawks (also 3-0). A little short handed in the backfield, Stout will look to it's forwards to control the game, and expect some big things out of it's semi-young backs.
9/9/13: The scrimmage vs. UW-Eau Claire was a success. Played a lot of clean ball, and surely recognized what the boys really need to work on before our WIIL opener this upcoming weekend vs. UW-La Crosse. Excited to have a productive week of practice. Will be a 1pm kickoff time on UWL's campus.
After a successful 15's fall season, and an impressive showing in the Wisconsin 7's Circuit (two 1st, one 2nd), the Blue Devils look forward to another exciting year in WIIL Conference play. With a core group of men returning, new uniforms, and a newly surfaced pitch, Fall 2013 is definitely something to look forward to.
The schedule is out, and some key matches to mention for pre-season ranked #14 Stout are the opener vs. La Crosse on September 14th, the showdown with pre-season #4 Whitewater October 5th, and an always competitive match with pre-season #9 Milwaukee October 26th.
Expectations are high for Stout, and for the WIIL Conference as a whole, so come out and support some of the highest level of DII rugby in the country.
